School Reunion

Went to one today, was great to see some old faces again \o/

Its mah birthday!!

were_r_cake

I r 20 today, but I’m not in a celebrating mood, this month has been completely shit, starting with the murder of my bro-in-law and ending with today when I thought my car tires had been slashes. Some chavs it seems went on a slashing spree. Luckily my car was not on the road where they did they slashing, but my neighbors weren’t so lucky, all 4 tires of their car was slashed.

Site changed to new domain

I got bored of the old name, and finally decided to change the site to a new one. Anyone requesting resources from old domain will be forwarded automatically to this one (with a little magic from .htaccess ) ). Everything is still intact, gallery, dev site, etc, etc.

BBC iPlayer and FairUse4WM

Not really much to say, I downloaded only one episode of Top Gear, since Spooks wasn’t available lol. I read about FairUse4WM being able to strip the DRM from it, so first I tried playing it in WMP 11, it worked fine, then I tried it in VLC, and it came out all distorted.

I then downloaded FairUse4WM (for testing only P ), and stripped the DRM from the downloaded episode, it only took around a minute, and Volia!!!!, it worked in VLC.

Anyway, I don’t plan on keeping the episode, I’m gonna watch it and delete it anyway, just as the BBC intended, but the only after when I feel bothered to watch it.

They tell you the first time you *open* the video, the clock starts ticking for the countdown to deletion after 7 days, which is alright, but it can be problematic if you don’t have time to watch it.

Another annoying thing is you *have* to use IE to log into the beta section, otherwise it throws an error -.- , it took me a good 5 mins wandering why I couldn’t log in. ninja

Got my first car

After a year of having a driving license, I got my first car, a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 T reg Manual D . I got it 2nd hand ‘cos I can’t afford a new car and insurance for it would be sky high lol. Anyway, my driving skills are a bit dodgy after not driving for a year, especially reverse parking >.< I kept hitting the pavement when parking lol.

Got my insurance done, thanks god for Pass Plus, saved me a nice £200 D There are some pics of the car the seller took for me, you can find them here, I might take some pics after I cleaned it up a bit lol.

Finished reading Harry Potter

I pre-ordered my copy of the new book, and I finished reading it today. My work shift was cancelled (by them P ), so I just read it all day D I loved the storyline, but I did think the ending could have been nicely done, stuff like Harry talking to Dumbledore was a bit wtf-ish.

It did clear up a lot of things though, like whose side Snape was on, and the truth about the scar, and what the final Horcrux is.

After I finished reading it, I checked a few spoiler sites, and after reading some, I finally got to appreciated the subtle hints J.K put in all the previous books, things I didn’t even realize that could mean a lot more then meets the eye, the lack of a word in a sentence which could have a double meaning to it, like Dumbledore saying “please…” to Snape on the tower instead of “please don’t”….., and his body rising before falling to his death )

Kinda sad for it all to finish (

Pownce Invites

I’ve got 8 Pownce invites left. If anyone is interested, leave a comment with your email address.

On a non-Pownce related topic, my results for first year at uni have been confirmed, I scrapped a pass D

Digg Mobile 0.1

I’ve usually visit Digg daily to get tech news, and for a while I’ve been using a mobile version of Digg.com, provided by Mobits.com, but formatted by Google for my pda.The actual Mobits version of Digg forces you to visit the actual digg page with comments and stuff to get the source url, which obviously isn’t a good idea for a pda (downloading and formatting 100s of comments), unless you format the page with Google, which can be annoying. -.-

Now I’ve known about the Digg APIs for a while, but I didn’t really bother with it, but I finally decided to make my own version of Digg mobile, formatted to the way I like it, and I thought this would be interesting project, and I could pick up a few new leet PHP skillz skills along the way. Anyway, you can find the finished product here: http://www.zer0day.com/diggmobile D (Thx to Bma for the design ) )

Atm, it only has support for All, Tech and World categories, and I don’t have plans to add anymore, but if people use it, then I probably will. P

Woot!!!

I’ve been meaning to write this for a long time, but wasn’t really bothered P

Firstly, I passed my first year exams, but the results of still preliminary, they have to be confirmed by the uni board. Hopefully, the results’ll stay the same, or lean in my favor. I managed a borderline pass, passing 6/8 modules, the minimum required amount for a pass pinch

I was really worried about my results, I hardly did any revision. I got an A in Web Tech (web programming lol), but the rest I got between B and E pinch

Secondly, I *finally* got a new PC woot . The old one (a P4 Prescott x ) was annoying the hell out of me with the constant problems it gave me. Once I’d fixed a problem with it, a new one would pop up. The last straw for me was when it decided it didn’t wanna work with my new power supply, I went onto OCuK, and ordered some new parts D

Specs:

  • Intel C2D E6600 2.40Ghz
  • Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R Mobo
  • Corsair 2x1GB DDR2 RAM
  • BFG GeForce 7600 GT OC 256MB PCIe
  • Seagate 160GB SATAII HD
  • Asus DRW-1814BLT DVD RW (x2)
  • Antec P182 Case

A total of £550 (out of my saving up to buy a car fund P ).

This isn’t exactly a top spec machine, but it’ll do for me D It’s also sooooo much more quieter then the old pc, even during stress testing, it hardly makes any noise.

But I almost screwed it up when building it, I didn’t realize the heatsink pin for the Northbridge chip had come loose, and it kept crashing when doing stress testing. I was almost ready to RMA the bits when I noticed. Luckily, I found the pieces for the heatsink and managed to fix it again. (whoo, go me)

Started watching Bones

So after watching a few eps on Sky, I started enjoying it. Today, when I went to West End, I picked up the Season 1 DVD Boxset ( shocked , Yes I do still buy films and stuff I like, even though I have a unlimited account newsgroup account ) ). I’ve watched 3 eps so far, and I’m loving it. I used to be a fan of CSI, but I reckon this is better, its not only dealing with dead people, but also the actors make it great to watch.

I also started watching a new show called Traveler. Basically its about 2 men who get setup by their friend in a terrorist bombing, and they have to find out wtf is going on, and who their “friend” really was. I’d recommend both Bones and Traveler to anyone tbh.

Safari on Windows – Not impressed

Update: Thanks to a blog post here, Safari is now working fine D (I wrote this from Safari ) ), but I’ve already found some annoying bugs pinch

Previous Post:

First install and I’m greeted with this:

safari

Not a good start. I was looking forward to testing it out. You would think that the GUI would be a bit usable, but I can’t access the address bar, bookmarks or any of the menus sleeping
